The North Reading Police have received two calls today (Thursday, July 9th) regarding residents that have received checks in the mail that include a letter from Shaw Financial Incorporated. This letter states that the recipient has won 2nd prize in a sweepstakes. The check is supposed to cover the “processing fee” associated with winning the prize. A copy of an actual letter is here for people to use as a reference. This is a scam and can be reported to the FTC here.
