North Reading will be transitioning to North Shore Regional Dispatch Services for dispatch responsibilities, including business and emergency phone calls, effective Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m.
North Shore Regional Emergency Communications Center will become the public safety answering point for Police and Fire, and will answer 911 calls, provide emergency medical dispatch services, answer business lines, dispatch police, fire and ambulance services, and monitor mutual aid frequencies. All of the current Police Department phone numbers and extensions will remain the same.
With North Shore assuming dispatch responsibilities, the Police Department will still have the same number of police personnel. The front lobby will remain open, however, in the future, there may be times during the overnight shift when the police station is unmanned as police officers respond to calls. If the front Police Lobby is closed, there will be a call box and camera in the front vestibule that allows communication between North Shore Regional and residents to assist community members who come directly to the police station during those hours.
