The North Reading Police Department would like to remind all drivers to scan the street for wheels and feet as part of a new safety campaign being promoted by MassDOT.
The Scan the Street for Wheels and Feet safety campaign aims to get drivers to be on the lookout for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs), such as those on scooters, mobility devices, wheelchair and strollers. One in four fatal crashes statewide involve a VRU, according to MassDOT.
“We are urging all drivers to always pay special attention to those on foot, bike, or those using devices that make them particularly vulnerable when using our roads,” said Chief Mark Zimmerman. “Staying alert behind the wheel save lives.”
