This is an important message from the Town of North Reading:
Water demand continues to be extremely high in North Reading. Water levels in the Town’s water storage tanks continue to decrease, further reducing water pressure in the homes of many residents and potentially impeding firefighting capabilities. This high seasonal demand for water is primarily the result of lawn watering.
Under the Town’s current Stage 1 Water Use Restriction, residents and businesses are not permitted to water lawns on Sunday, Monday, or Thursday. To allow the storage tanks to recover to higher water levels, the Town is asking residents and businesses to voluntarily refrain from lawn watering tomorrow and Tuesday of this week as well. The public is also asked to limit outdoor water use for other purposes. The goal of these requests is to avoid the need for the issuance of fines or further water use restrictions.
Anyone making use of an automatic lawn irrigation system is asked to turn the control for the irrigation system to the “OFF” position through Tuesday.
The Town will continue to evaluate the water levels in the tanks to determine whether fines or additional long term restrictions need to be implemented to provide for all the needs of the public water system.
The public’s cooperation is critical during this time. If you have any questions, please contact the Water Department at (978) 664-6046.
