The North Reading Police Department has received several recent complaints about unleashed dogs at Ipswich River Park. Also of concern are reports that owners are not cleaning up after their dogs, particularly on the fields. We would like to remind everyone that the park is there for all people to use and that our Town By-laws require all dogs to be on a leash or under control of the owner at all times. We also have a Town By-law that requires dog owners, or the person in charge of the dog at the time, to pick up any and all waste left behind by the dog. Both these by-laws carry a civil fine.
Due to these complaints, the North Reading Animal Control Officer will be patrolling the park with increased frequency. We would encourage all people to comply to the best of their ability and remind all dog owners that the park does supply waste bags at the entrance of the park from the parking lot. Anyone who sees a violation is encouraged to contact the police department at 978.664.3131.
