North Reading Police recently discovered several items from a local convenience store that could be used for marijuana or hash oil consumption. With these items being so readily available to local youths, the North Reading Police Department feels it is necessary to issue this awareness message so parents can stay informed.
Most, if not all, parents have heard of marijuana. Few, if any, have heard of Butane Honey Oil (BHO). There are three main cannabis products: 1. Marijuana, the leafy herb. 2. Resin or hashish. 3. Oil (Hash Oil). Butane Honey Oil is made by extracting the oil from the marijuana plant and has some advantages to the user over traditional marijuana smoking: it has very little smell, either in its solid form or when vaporized, is very portable, can achieve intense effects in small amounts and doesn’t require a lot of ingredients.
“Terms parents should be aware of are: “butane honey oil,” “wax,” “shatter,” “budder” and “dabs.” Hash oil can be consumed by methods such as smoking, ingestion, or vaporization (dabbing). A water pipe, often small, is commonly used for hash oil vaporization and may be called an “oil rig”. The process for making hash oil is extremely dangerous and involves a large quantity of butane fluid and an open flame or handheld blowtorch.”
Hash oil can be dangerous as fires and explosions have occurred in the extraction process. Many will recall the explosion in Tewksbury in March, 2014. This is due to the use of the butane in the extraction process. The story can be read here.
Parents should be aware of items such as this commercially made water bottle that has a concealed area to hide various small items.
Parents should also be aware that this is just one example and that there are commercially made items that look like soda cans and other household items.
These pipes are used to smoke both marijuana and hash oil.
